Stomp Collective

On Saturday the 25th of February I had the opportunity to purchase a new zine by Stomp Collective at WAC X AMP Deal with the Devil exhibition. Stomp collective, created by artists Nava, Chloe, and Ruby, are a group of creatives who use mixed media practices to explore and reflect their obscure surroundings.

Stomp’s new zine, entitled Its Grim Up Norf, is a saddle stitch book of largely black and white collages which combine punk aesthetics with surreal imagery. The collages feature text of common northern phrases such as “R Kid” and “Me Bird” which often reflecting the imagery seen in the collages, for example the “Me Bird” spread showing a woman with a pigeon head next to bird illustrations and informative text on bird mating practices. The back cover of the zine presents a high contrast black and white image of a shoe sole, overlayed with white hand written text saying, “Things we hear and say as northerners”.
